The Redwood Forest can only be accessed via the O'Shannassy Aqueduct as Cement Creek bridge is currently under construction. Best done on a bike as its about 6km. Take some water and look out for danger noodles in summer.
Favored by day-trippers journeying from Melbourne and cherished by local residents hailing from Warburton and its neighboring regions, the Redwood Forest provides an idyllic haven. Here, visitors are invited to unwind upon the lush lawns, indulging in picnics while wandering amidst the grandeur of the Californian Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) forest.

With over nine decades gracing its existence, the inaugural Californian Redwoods were initially planted in conjunction with Bishop Pine and Douglas Fir as part of a hydrology experiment initiated by the Board of Works during the 1930s. The subsequent years from 1960 to 1963 witnessed further plantings, including Radiata Pine, Western Red Cedar, and additional Californian Redwoods, now flourishing at the age of over 60 years.
Aptly recognized as the world's tallest trees, Californian Redwoods can ascend to an astonishing 115 meters and endure for over two millennia. Despite their relative youth, the trees at Cement Creek stand in captivating unity, displaying an arrangement meticulously orchestrated.

The summer season beckons for exploration. Upon entering the domain of these towering Californian Redwoods, one is embraced by a cooler and quieter environment. Amidst this serene atmosphere, those with keen observation skills may discover the delicate beauty of native orchids, including the elegant greenhoods and fragrant cinnamon bells. The occasional Monarch Butterfly flutters by in graceful intervals. As the summer sun casts its glow, the distinctive calls of Grey Headed Flying Foxes can be heard, as they take up temporary residence within the forest's canopy.
Venturing beyond the primary stand of Californian Redwoods unveils an enchanting journey along Cement Creek, leading to its convergence with the Yarra River. Along this scenic circuit, you'll encounter native foliage like ferns and Eucalypt trees, and with a bit of luck, catch glimpses of vibrant birdlife such as the yellow robins, darting playfully amidst the dappled sunlight.

Just north of Cement Creek Rd, the O'Shannassay Aqueduct Trail awaits, beckoning both walkers and cyclists to traverse its scenic route, a well-known haven for leisure and exploration.
Kindly note the popularity of this site, and when possible, opt for quieter times to visit, as weekends, school holidays, and public holidays often usher in bustling crowds.
